improve your skills and learn

Plein air painting has been happening since the days of the first impressionists when Monet and several other artists decided to go outdoors and paint.

A set up can be as small as a sketch pad and pencil, but most painters prefer oils and watercolors.  There is no limit on how an artist can set up.  Most create a simple palette and carry minimal items, since finding a spot can sometimes be off the beaten path.

The session starts with a location that has been scouted out beforehand so that it has several conveniences: parking, washroom, and ease of excess.  The sessions usually are 2-3 hours long and the last 15-30 minutes are set aside for a critique. This is where you share what you have accomplished, and the artists can discuss why they painted the scene and what they achieved.
