MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION

• MEETINGS

Each month from September to June the LCALeague members gather for a hands-on session, demonstration or social event.  Between Zoom, face to face at various locations around Lake County, meetings are held on the second Monday of each month (unless specified.)  The State Bank of the Lakes in Grayslake at 50 Commerce Drive, Grayslake, IL 60030, in the lower-level meeting room is a common meeting place.  Our monthly newsletter will give specific information as to where the LCALeague will be meeting.

• BRINGING ART INTO THE COMMUNITY

A benefit to being a member is to help promote and encourage art shows, exhibits and scholarships.

• MEMBER SHOWS/CRITIQUES 

Twice a year, the group exhibits and gathers for a spring and fall membership show.  A tradition from the start of the LCALeague.  Most member shows are held at the Jack Benny Center for the Arts in Waukegan.  These shows give artists a chance to exhibit their work for no fee and to receive a professional artist's critique.  Several of the art pieces will receive awards.   

For our 90th Anniversary in 2024, the group will meet at the Robert Wright Gallery at the College of Lake County for the spring show, and we will meet at The Carnegie Library in Waukegan for the fall show.  

• MONTHLY COMPETITION 

Members are encouraged to bring one of their recent works of art to display at each regular meeting.   The art does not need to be framed but will present better if they are.  When a demonstrator is present, the work will be judged, and awards will be presented at the end of the meeting.

• FINE ARTS FESTIVAL

From time to time, a committee is formed to organize a festival to give artists a chance to display and sell their artwork to the community.

• WORKSHOPS

Professional artists occasionally conduct 1–3-day workshops at a very reasonable price for our members.  

• DIGITAL LIBRARY

A link to the digital library is shared each month in our Newsletter, Sketches.  There we will post links to various videos that will be interesting to all levels of expertise and medium. 

• NEWSLETTER and E-NEWS

The Sketches newsletter and MNews will be emailed separately to active members monthly to keep everyone up to date on what is happening with our members and meetings.  MNews is used to promote individual shows, events and accomplishments.

• PLEIN AIR GROUP 

For all those artists that enjoy plein air painting, the LCALeague conducts 10-12 events yearly.  Locations and times are posted on Facebook at our Lake County Art League Plein Air Group page and are announced via email.   If you would like to be added to our NON-MEMBER list, please email Deb Edmunds at edmundsdl@gmail.com 

• UNDERCROFT GALLERY 

A modest Waukegan gallery puts together imaginative shows and insightful publicity that the exhibiting artist can continue to use. Shows run two months with two receptions.  The gallery is located at 410 Grand Avenue, Waukegan, IL 

• HISTORICAL RECORD 

An appointed historian keeps records, which dates back to 1934.  Newspaper articles and photographs of LCALeague members and events are maintained and can be viewed by request.
