Ken Call (website) was born and raised in Rochelle, about 70 miles west of downtown Chicago. He graduated from the American Academy of Art in 1980, studied in Paris 15 years later, and now lives in Northbrook with his wife, Tammy, and his 2 children. Starting as a studio artist, Ken branched out on his own and enjoys a successful freelance career. Through art school and his early years as an illustrator, Ken was encouraged to paint in different mediums and styles. He settled on watercolor because its “spontaneity and flow fit my personality and style.” Lately, Ken has transitioned to fine art and portraiture, and has Signature status in the American Watercolor Society and the Transparent Watercolor Society of America.
Daily Herald wrote that last winter, the Northbrook Arts Commission, along with the Northbrook Public Library, hosted a solo exhibition of Ken’s work. “In creating these pieces, Call stated, ‘the one thing that comes to mind before anything else is the play of light, indoors or out, which defines and creates a mood.’"
