The Lake County Art League came into being in 1934, with the propose of showcasing the works of the Lake County’s art’s community. The late Phil Austin, a commercial artist and fine arts painter, was instrumental in the League’s start.
In the early years, there was a strict policy for artists seeking membership having to have their work approved by the board. Those who weren’t approved were eligible to be patron members. The patron members were then encouraged to improve their work so that they could later qualify as full members. This rule has been dropped, so that there are no patron members and all are welcome as full members of the Art League.
Our mission has changed through the years to that of education. The Art League has demonstrations every month (with the exception of the summer months), Included are two highly thought of critiques in November and May of recent works by 30-40 members critiqued by a professional artist where the public is invited. The league also holds workshops by eminent artists. All disciplines are covered. The League has membership of over 70 artists.
The Art League also holds “On the Wall” exhibitions where members display their work at various businesses and community centers throughout Lake County.
