2008 LCAL SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS ANNOUNCED This year's student scholarship winners are Michael Litewski, recipient of the LCAL Scholarship Award, for his watercolor abstract painting entitled To The Surface and Josiah Eidmann, who received the Phoebe Boyd Scholarship Award, for his oil portrait entitled The Walls That Surround Us. They were chosen from among 35 College of Lake County students, each of whom submitted one piece of art, produced as a class assignment. Thanks to Darlene Bock, Gail Gudgeon and Sally Keller, who selected the winning entries, based on creativity, composition, use of medium, and technique. Each award is for $500, in the form of a fund, which can be used at the college or another academic institution for tuition, supplies, daycare or anything else school-related. These LCAL scholarship awards will be presented on April 11th, at the opening reception for the CLC's student show. The two artists have also been invited to our May 19th meeting at the Jack Benny Center, and were asked to bring a sample of their work to show to the general Art League membership. In addition to their scholarships, they will each receive a one year paid membership to LCAL. Congratulations Michael and Josiah!
Crab Tree Farm Tour A visit to Crab !
Tree Far
m/Museum in Lake Bluff (just north of 176 on Sheridan Road) is a memorable experience as it houses a goldmine of items from the Arts and Crafts era done in a very beautiful setting. The exquisite farm buildings have been renovated to house a vast collection of Stickley and other Arts and Crafts masterpieces. Each building has been meticulously restored and redesigned to show off households of furniture complete with period fabrics, pottery, and artwork. Attention to detail is amazing, right down to the hairpins and jewelry set out in the bedrooms.
This farm is not open to the public, but the generosity of the family allows them to share it with selected groups at no charge. The Lake County Art League has arranged for a group tour on Saturday, July 19th, at 10:00 AM. This could include spouses of our members and other guests, but we need at least 20 people to sign up in order to qualify for a tour with a maximum of 40. We could also join together for a lunch after the tour which is approximately 1-1/2 hours. Please let Linda Kollacks know if you want to take advantage of this opportunity. Either call her at 847-680-6334, or send her an email: lindakollacks@juno.com
Waukegan Gallery NO GO for LCAL While almost all LCAL Members voted in favor of our committing to the Waukegan Art Gallery project, costs just exceeded our means. With no source of income other than our member dues and little prospect that we would be able to generate sufficient revenue to cover the operating costs, the project would have simply drained what little monies we have ac!

d over the years and therefore we will not be able to carry through with the plan. It certainly was a great idea, and we thank Skip Wiese for his enthusiasm and all the efforts that he put forth in trying to get the project off the ground.
