The Plein Air tentative schedule for the rest of the year has

firmed up:

May 8, Harvay Farm in Grayslake, with its classical

home, barn and silos;

May 22, Saddlebrook Farm in Grayslake,

which is a working farm with interesting features;

June 12, Deerfield Historic Village with its log cabins;

July 10, Cuba Marsh Forest Preserve in Barrington, with its

attractive mix of prairie, marsh and woodlands;

July 31, Lake County Fair in new buildings in Grayslake;

August 21, among the dunes in Waukegan City Beach;

September 11, Ft Sheridan Forest Preserve for some fall color;

September 25, Farm Heritage Show of old farm equipment in Wauconda;

October 16, Trail of History recreation of pioneer days, near McHenry; and

November 6, Field Museum in downtown Chicago.

Many of these dates have not yet been confirmed.

Much of the plein air events are organized around the FarmArt

juried exhibit at Discovery Museum in Wauconda from August

21 to November 13. Sessions are being held at a number of

farms before the June 1 entry deadline to present our artists

with opportunities to produce winning images. Also, a session

is being held at the Farm Heritage Show at the adjoining

Shorewood Forest preserve during the exhibit. The Lake

County Art League will have one or two tents at the Farm

Heritage Show to display and sell of original farm art, and to

draw attention to the FarmArt exhibit.

As always, please feel free to forward this information to

anyone you think might be interested in our plein air

activities. The Lake County Art League Plein Air Group

meets every few Saturday mornings at interesting places,

year-round. There is no “membership,” just a list of people

who show up when they can to work on their craft. No dues,

no officers, no meetings, no need to RSVP, but we do ask for

ideas on where to paint and photograph, or how to challenge

ourselves as artists. Whenever possible, sessions conclude

with a group sharing where artists identify a success and a

frustration in their morning's work. There are presently over

70 names on our list, with 5-15 attending any one session.

Not everyone on the list has an e-mail address, and not all are

members of the LCAL. If anyone would like to be added to

the list they should contact Chris Tanner at
